The AI
Gutenberg
WordPress core has the foundations — an AI Client and provider connections (7.0) and the Abilities API, with a separate MCP Adapter — rather than a builder AI. The free official AI plugin writes alt text, titles and translations and generates images, with your own provider key; it doesn’t build layouts or sites.
Native AI
An agent that builds with the same elements you edit: it designs whole sites from a description, edits any page with your design system, and works across the site — content types, plugins, popups, analytics and reports — planning bigger work for your approval, with an undo for everything.
