Native Connect WP

Connect Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other AI apps to any WordPress site with the Native Connect WP plugin: installing it, the license, each app’s steps, the chat and chat bubble, Activity and Undo, Power mode and updates.

Native Connect WP is a plugin of its own, separate from Native WP AI. It lets the AI apps you already use — Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code, Codex, Windsurf and any MCP app — work on a WordPress site, with whatever page builder it uses: Gutenberg, Elementor, Bricks, Breakdance or Oxygen. Your AI app does the thinking on your own plan with it. What it costs is on its page.

Free and Pro#

The free version lets AI work on your site. Pro makes it good at your store, your SEO and your builder.

  • Your store (for store owners): Products and variations, bulk price changes with a preview first, stock, orders, refunds, coupons and sales reports — through WooCommerce’s own tools, so changes can be undone. The free version has no store tools of its own.
  • Your SEO (for anyone who wants to be found): Titles, descriptions, focus keywords and social texts written straight into Yoast SEO, Rank Math, All in One SEO, SEOPress or The SEO Framework — many pages at once, with an audit, and every change checked on the live page.
  • Your builder (for building pages): The AI learns every element of your builder and its settings, and your site’s own colors, fonts, classes, headers, footers and popups. On the free version it can edit an Elementor page but guesses at the settings; with Pro, new sections match the rest of your site.
  • Power mode (for developers): The AI can also run PHP, query the database and edit files, for jobs no other tool does. It stays off until an administrator switches it on, and files and database rows can be put back.

Pro is the same plugin with more in it. Every Native WP AI plan includes it, and so does Native WP AI’s free trial; on its own it’s Connect Pro (one website) or Connect Agency (unlimited websites), billed monthly or yearly.

Install it#

  1. Get the pluginThe free version will be listed on WordPress.org as “Native Connect” (WordPress.org doesn’t allow “WP” in plugin names). For Pro, sign in to your account and click Download Native Connect WP Pro, or enter your license key on the Download page.
  2. Upload ProIn WordPress, go to Plugins → Add New Plugin → Upload Plugin, choose the zip and click Install Now. If the free version is installed, choose Replace current with uploaded.
  3. ActivateClick Activate. Native Connect appears in the admin menu, with Connect, Chat, Activity and Settings.

Activate your license#

Go to Native Connect → Settings, paste your license key under License and click Activate. A Native Connect WP key works, and so does any Native WP AI key. On a site where Native WP AI is activated, Native Connect WP uses its license on its own.

  • The license brings Pro’s updates and turns on the dashboard chat.
  • AI apps you connect don’t need a license.
  • Remove the license key, in the same place, takes it off the site. You can also disconnect a site from your account.

Connect an AI app#

Open Native Connect → Connect. It shows the site’s MCP address — https://your-site.com/wp-json/native-connect/v1/mcp — and the steps for each app. An app connects in one of two ways:

  • Sign in (OAuth): the app opens your site; you sign in to WordPress and click Allow. Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Cursor and VS Code work this way. Nothing to copy, and you can disconnect the app any time.
  • Connection key: click Create a connection key for the app and copy it into the app’s settings — it isn’t shown again. Codex and Windsurf use a key; Claude Code, Cursor and VS Code can too. A key is a WordPress application password for your account.
AppHow to add it
ClaudeIn Settings → Connectors, click Add custom connector, give it a name and paste the site’s MCP address. Click Connect: your site opens; sign in to WordPress and click Allow. In a chat, turn the connector on from the tools menu.
ChatGPTIn Settings → Apps & Connectors, turn on developer mode (under Advanced settings). Click Create, paste the site’s MCP address and choose OAuth. Your site opens: sign in to WordPress and click Allow.
Claude CodeRun the claude mcp add command Native Connect → Connect gives you, then type /mcp in Claude Code, pick the site and choose Authenticate: your site opens to sign in. With a connection key, the command carries the key instead.
CursorIn Settings → MCP, add a custom MCP server and paste the mcp.json lines from Native Connect → Connect. Cursor opens your site to sign in, or uses the connection key in those lines.
VS CodePut the lines from Native Connect → Connect in .vscode/mcp.json (or run MCP: Add Server → HTTP). VS Code opens your site to sign in, or uses the connection key.
CodexCreate a connection key in Native Connect → Connect, then add the lines it gives you to ~/.codex/config.toml.
WindsurfCreate a connection key in Native Connect → Connect, then add the lines it gives you to Windsurf’s mcp_config.json.
Any MCP appAdd a remote (Streamable HTTP) MCP server with the site’s MCP address. If the app supports OAuth, it opens your site to sign in; otherwise send a connection key in the Authorization header.

The app acts as the person who connected it, with that person’s WordPress permissions. Its sign-in works for Native Connect WP only, nowhere else in WordPress.

Local sites and https

claude.ai and ChatGPT connect only to https addresses on the internet. Apps on your computer — Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code — also reach a local site. To try claude.ai or ChatGPT with a local site, share it through a tunnel (Cloudflare Tunnel, for example) and use the address the tunnel gives you.

Disconnect an app

Native Connect → Connect → Connected apps lists each app with the person who connected it, how (sign-in or key), when, and when it was last used. Disconnect stops it right away.

What the AI can do#

Each tool works through WordPress’s and your plugins’ own functions. New pages and posts are drafts unless you ask.

  • Pages and builders: Read a page as its builder’s elements, as an outline or in full; Insert, change, move, duplicate and remove elements by ID; Write a whole page (it starts as a draft) — from a description, or a screenshot you share with your AI app; See a page as visitors see it, drafts too; Clear caching plugins’ and builders’ CSS caches.
  • Content: Posts, pages and any content type: find, create (as drafts), change, duplicate, trash and restore; Custom fields, ACF included, templates and featured images; Categories, tags and other taxonomies; Media: add from a link, change titles, alt text and captions.
  • The rest of WordPress: Menus and where the theme shows them; Users: names, emails and roles (making someone an administrator asks first); Settings and any option by name (secrets hidden; the site address, roles and keys locked); Site health and a summary of the site.
  • Plugins and other tools: Plugins and themes: list, search WordPress.org, install, activate, update and delete; Any plugin’s REST API, as you; WordPress abilities that plugins publish (WordPress 6.9+); Native WP AI’s capabilities, when it’s on the site.
  • WooCommerce (Pro): Products and variations, categories and stock; Prices one by one or in bulk, with a before → after preview first; Orders: status, notes and refunds; Customers, coupons and sales reports.
  • SEO plugins (Pro): Yoast SEO, Rank Math, All in One SEO, SEOPress and The SEO Framework; Titles, descriptions, focus keywords, indexing and social texts; Bulk fixes and an audit, checked on the live page; The SEO plugin’s site-wide settings.
  • Builder know-how (Pro): Each builder’s building guide; Every element and its settings; The design system: global colors, fonts, classes and variables, and site-wide styles (Bricks theme styles, Breakdance Global Settings); Templates: headers, footers, single and archive templates, popups, sections and global blocks; Template settings: where each applies, a popup’s size and how often it shows, sticky headers.
  • Power mode (Pro): Run PHP inside WordPress; Query the database (rows are saved before they change); Read, write and delete files in wp-content (saved first, PHP checked); Off until an administrator switches it on.

Pages are saved the way their builder saves them and the builder’s CSS is refreshed, so they stay editable by hand. New and changed elements are checked against the builder: unknown elements and settings are refused, with the closest matches. With Native WP AI on the same site, the AI also reaches Native WP AI’s capabilities, with Native WP AI’s own approvals.

Builders

  • Gutenberg: The block editor: pages and posts as blocks, written as blocks or block markup.
  • Elementor: Containers and widgets, and version 4’s atomic elements. With Elementor Pro: Theme Builder headers, footers and templates with their conditions, popups with their triggers, forms, post lists and price tables. Tested on Elementor and Elementor Pro 4.3.
  • Bricks: Bricks elements in pages, headers, footers and popups, with Bricks’ global classes, colors, variables and theme styles. Tested on Bricks 2.4.
  • Breakdance: Classic and Breakdance 3.0 elements, its classes, variables and Global Settings, headers, footers and popups — and Breakdance’s own AI tools. Tested on Breakdance 3.0.
  • Oxygen: Oxygen 6’s elements, through the same adapter as Breakdance.

Activity and Undo#

Every change made through Native Connect WP — by an AI app or the chat — is recorded in Native Connect → Activity, newest first, with what it replaced: posts and their fields, custom fields and terms, options, users, menus, files and database rows. Changes are kept for 60 days.

  • Undo puts back what a change replaced. If a later change touched the same page, setting or file, Undo says so instead of wiping it out: undo the later one first, or both together.
  • What can’t be undone is recorded as a note: a plugin update, PHP that ran, a refund, an email already sent to a customer.
  • Choose My changes or Everyone’s changes to see yours or everyone’s.

Risky tools are marked as such, so AI apps ask you before using them, and passwords, keys and wp-config.php’s secrets are blanked out of everything the AI reads.

The dashboard chat and the chat bubble#

Native Connect → Chat is an AI chat inside WordPress, without another app. It uses the same tools, asks before risky actions with an approval card, and runs on AI credits from your account — buy credit packs in your account (see Plans and AI credits). It needs a license key on the site.

The chat bubble puts the chat one click away on every admin screen. Turn it on in Native Connect → Settings → Chat bubble and choose who sees it: administrators, or everyone who can use the chat (Contributors and up). It’s off by default, doesn’t show in full-screen builders, and appears once the chat has a license. On a post’s or product’s edit screen it suggests things to do there, and the conversation follows you from screen to screen.

Power mode#

Power mode (Pro) lets the AI run PHP inside WordPress, query the database and read, write and delete files in wp-content — for jobs no other tool does, like bulk fixes, custom code or debugging. It’s off by default.

  • An administrator switches it on in Native Connect → Settings → Power mode, for 1 hour, for 24 hours or until switched off. The AI can’t switch it on.
  • Files change only in wp-content — not in mu-plugins, and not Native Connect WP itself. PHP files are checked for errors before they’re saved, and files are saved before they change, for Undo.
  • Database UPDATE and DELETE queries save the rows first, WordPress’s core tables can’t be dropped, and wp-config.php is never read.

To keep Power mode off for good, add this line to wp-config.php (DISALLOW_FILE_EDIT keeps it off too):

define( 'NWAC_POWER_MODE', false );

Updates#

  • Pro: with an active license, new versions appear in WordPress’s Plugins screen like any other plugin. To update by hand, download the latest zip from your account and upload it over the installed one.
  • Free: updates come from WordPress.org.
  • If a license ends, the plugin keeps working at the version you have.

Questions#

Is Native Connect WP the same as Native WP AI?

No: they’re two products. Native WP AI is a complete website builder with its own AI agent, for building and running a site in one plugin. Native Connect WP is a separate, lighter plugin that lets the AI app you already use work on any WordPress site, with the builder it already has. They work together: every Native WP AI plan includes Native Connect WP Pro.

Do I need an AI plan of my own?

For AI apps, yes: Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and the others do the thinking on your own account with them, so Native Connect WP adds no AI cost. Check that your app’s plan lets you add custom connectors (MCP). Only the optional dashboard chat uses AI credits, bought from us.

Do I need Native WP AI?

No. Native Connect WP works on any WordPress site, with or without a page builder. If Native WP AI is on the site too, your AI app also reaches Native WP AI’s capabilities — its builder, forms, popups, SEO, CRM, store and the rest — through the same connection.

Can I pay yearly, change plans or cancel?

Yes. Connect Pro and Connect Agency are billed monthly or yearly. Switch between them from your account (your key stays the same) and cancel anytime there; the license keeps working to the end of the period you paid for.
