Native AI and WordPress posts

Where a post’s design comes from#

Every post keeps its WordPress data — title, content, excerpt, featured image, author, dates, categories, custom fields and SEO data. Its design comes from the first of these that exists:

1. Its own Native AI layoutEither a Native AI page (designed in Native AI; the layout is the content) or a custom layout (a one-off design for one post that shows its WordPress content — which Native AI never overwrites).
2. A Native AI templateThe template chosen for the post, or its post type’s default, or the best match by display conditions.
3. Your themeWith the Native AI header and footer where they apply.

The builder’s top bar says which it is (“Native AI page”, “Custom layout”), and the post’s edit screen explains it in words: “Using template: Single post”, “Custom layout (not published)”.

In the WordPress editor#

• The block editor gets an Edit with Native AI button and a Native AI panel in the sidebar: where the design comes from, Create custom layout, View template, Change template and Revert to global template.
• The classic editor gets the same under the title and in a side box.
• When a custom layout or Native AI page is active, a notice says which editor controls what.

Custom layouts#

Create custom layout gives one post its own design, overriding its template for that post only. Start from the template’s design, with the post’s content, from scratch, from the previous custom layout, or generated with AI. Visitors keep seeing the template until you publish the layout. Revert to global template takes it away again — the layout is kept as “previous”, and the post’s content is untouched.

Post lists and Add New#

• Post lists get Edit with Native AI on each row and a Native AI column: Custom layout, Native AI page, Template: …, or Not using Native AI.
• Add New can ask how to start: Write in the WordPress editor, Design in Native AI, Generate with AI, or Start from an existing design.

Post types#

Settings → Builder → Post types lists every post type on the site — custom ones too. For each: whether Native AI is enabled, how new posts start (the WordPress editor, Native AI, or ask each time), whether custom layouts, template choice and AI generation are allowed, and its default template. Pages and posts are enabled by default; new pages ask how to start.

Revisions#

The published layout is saved with every WordPress revision, so restoring a revision on the Revisions screen restores the design too.

Content-only editing#

Give a role Open the builder without Change layouts and its people can edit text, images, links, icons, dates and list items — but not add, move, delete or style elements. The AI keeps to the same limit for them. Create custom layouts and Choose templates are separate permissions. See Roles and permissions.
