Keep content for members

Memberships makes plans people join by buying a WooCommerce product, by having a role or an account, or because you added them — and rules that keep pages, posts, categories or whole sections for them.

Memberships is an optional feature. A plan is a group of members; content rules say what’s for which members and what everyone else gets.

  1. Switch it onGo to Native AI → Settings → Features and switch on Memberships. A Memberships screen appears in the Native AI menu.
  2. Add a planMemberships → Plans → New plan: its name, how people get it, how long it lasts, and whether it gives members a role.
  3. Protect contentContent rules → New rule: what it protects, who can see it, and what everyone else gets. See Content rules and what visitors see.
  4. Check itOpen a protected page in a private window (signed out): you see what visitors see. People who can edit a page always see all of it.

How people get a plan#

WayWhat happens
Buying a productLink the plan to WooCommerce products. When an order with one is paid (processing or completed), the buyer becomes a member; a refund or a cancelled order ends it. Ask for an account at checkout for these products (WooCommerce → Settings → Accounts), since a member needs one.
A subscriptionWith WooCommerce Subscriptions, a subscription product keeps the plan while the subscription is active: it pauses when the subscription is on hold, lasts until the end of the paid period when it’s pending cancellation, and ends when it’s cancelled or expires.
Having a roleEveryone with one of the plan’s roles is a member for as long as they have it.
Having an accountA free plan: everyone signed in is a member.
Added by handMembers → Add a member, or ask the AI. You choose until when.

How long it lasts#

A plan lasts a number of days, weeks, months or years from the day someone joins, or has no end date. It applies to memberships from a purchase or added by hand; a subscription follows the subscription. Each night, memberships that have reached their end date end.

Give members a role adds a WordPress role while someone is a member and takes it away when the membership ends — useful for a forum or another plugin that checks roles.
